Run Your Dog In a 5K

Think about running with your dog? Already run with your dog? Consider training you both for a 5K run.

If you already run, having a 5K race to train for will make your running feel more purposeful.

If you are thinking about running, training for a 5K race is a reasonable and fun goal.

Five kilometers is just over 3 miles (3.1 to be exact). If you (think you) are in bad shape now, just think, how long does it take you to walk 3 miles? At a pace of 15 minutes per mile (a moderate walking pace), you'll only walk for a little over 45 minutes, not even an hour. Did I mention, even though it "says" it is a 5K run, there is absolutely no law or rule that says you have to run all of the event? Lots of beginners, run, walk, run, walk, run, walk, walk, walk, run, walk, and so on until completed.

Do it! You will feel so fulfilled to have to actually register for an event, show up, and finish it no matter what. 99% of the time, everyone at any of these type of events are supportive and encouraging and helpful. The planners of these events are looking for people to have a good time, these are not Olympic qualifiers and you do NOT have track stars showing up. Just people who like some level of physical fitness and comradarie.

There are many events that welcome people and dogs running a 5K race. These are fun! First, you have a teammate on your endeavor. And your teammate will probably be the one to encourage you to run, keep running, run faster! These Dog Runs are great way to meet like minded people and get your dog around other dogs that like to run.

How to find these runs? Easy! Do a search in Google on "dog run 5K". Include the name of your state. I promise you will find something. And consider doing it! You may be nervous at first, but people are friendly, the events are fun, and it's a great new experience your dog will love!
